Hey team, I hope you’re all surviving the cold!

-Harvard forms are due TOMORROW!  Remember the COPIES of your insurance cards (we do not want the actual cards) and the $150 deposit.  If you are double entering, the check should be for $210.  ONLY hand it to Lauren or me.  Do not give it to Ben, Mrs. Waite, or anyone else.  We just want to keep it organized.

-Along with the Harvard forms, you should email Ben at benwohl424@gmail.com with 1) your name 2) your cell phone number 3) your parent/guardian’s name 4) their home/cell number (please indicate which is which)

News Letter 1/24/10

Hey team!  Everybody can now breathe a huge sigh of relief now that midterms are finally over.  I hope they all went well.  To all my fellow seniors, welcome to our last semester of high school!

-Just because I send out weekly newsletters does not mean that you do not have to come to meetings anymore.  We expect all of you to be there.  We understand if you have an important conflict, but you should be there every other time.  If you are not there, you could miss important information and deadlines.  Not to mention the extremely helpful workshops afterwards.   Mrs. Waite, Mrs. Wigg, and the rest of the officers dedicate hours besides just those Wednesdays making sure the team runs smoothly so you can go to tournaments.  The least you could do is show up at meetings.  Something to keep in mind, when we are forced to drop people (because we do not have enough judges HINT HINT), figuring out spots for national tournaments, and figuring out who gets to go to States and Districts (the Nationals qualifying tournament), if you are consistently not at meetings you will not be highly considered to get to go to those tournaments.  We take dedication to the team into consideration.  Going to meetings is part of team dedication.

-To those of you who are going to Harvard, there are only about 3 weeks left so start perfecting your pieces and cases and get pumped!  Second, if you still have fundraising you promised to do, judges you promised you would provide, or tournaments you promised you would attend, GET IT DONE.

-If you ordered slicks, please come pick them up during lunch in Mrs. Waite’s room ASAP.  I am getting sick of carrying them around.  Keep in mind that you can not take your slicks unless you give me money.

-For those of you who enjoy competing (which I think would be everyone on the team) you need to keep providing judges even if you have fulfilled your requirements.  Paying for judges is expensive and we do not have the money to consistently pay for judges.  For those of you who are not going to Harvard and think you are exempt from judging requirements, think again.  You need to provide TWO judges as a team requirement.  A reminder to all!  Pieces must be performed at 2 tournaments in order to be Harvard qualified.

-I would like to remind people that in the “Upcoming Tournaments” section, I only put tournaments that you can still sign up for.

The team would like to wish a special congratulations to Maddy Stein who Quarterfinaled in Varsity LD and Cheyenne Reisner who Octofinaled in Varsity LD this weekend at Columbia!

Upcoming tournaments:

February 6- CFL 5- Events offered: DP, JVOI, VOI, OO, JVExtemp, VExtemp, Duo, Dec, JVLD, VLD, PF, Congress

27- CFL 3- Events offered: DP, JVOI, VOI, OO, JVExtemp, VExtemp, Duo, Dec, JVLD, VLD, PF, Congress

News Letter 1/17/10

Hey team!

I hope you all are studying like crazy for your midterms!

-If you have not handed in or emailed us your Harvard application, it is too late.

-There is NOT a meeting this week due to midterms!

-This is the time of year when most people have fulfilled their judging requirements and as a result we start running out of judges.  Please please please please please keep in mind that if we do not have enough judges for a tournament, we will be forced to drop people.  This has consequences beyond just that tournament.  The less people we have competing means we do not earn as many points.  Consequently, Randolph does not get as many spots at our National Qualifier Tournament AND New Jersey as a whole gets less spots at Nationals.  So please do not stop providing judges just because you have fulfilled your requirement.

The team would like to congratulate everyone who competed at this weekend’s CFL.  We would like to wish a special congratulations to:

Ming Luo- 4th place JVLD

Scott Levinson- Tournament ChampionJVLD

Rachel Matusewicz- 4th place DP

Kevin Qiao- Tournament Champion DP

Namita Dwarakanath/Lauren McNulty- 5th place Duo

Kevin Palermo/Michelle Bennett- 4th Place Duo

The entire team- third place overall

Upcoming tournaments:

January 30- Ridge High School- Events offered: HI, DI, Poetry, Prose, OO, Duo, Dec, Improv, Impromptu, Extemp, NPF, VPF, NLD, JVLD, VLD, Congress

Ridge signups are going up next week and WILL ONLY be up next week.  So find some time during midterm week to signup, it takes 2 seconds.  If there is a serious problem where you cant do that, email me BEFORE friday.

February 6- CFL 5- DP, VOI, JVOI, OO, Dec, Duo, JVExtemp, VExtemp, NLD, JVLD, VLD, PF, Congress

News Letter 1/10

Hey team!  Start getting geared up for midterms.  And to my fellow seniors, only one week until we are officially second semester seniors!!!!

-Harvard is only about a month away.  So if you are planning on going, get your requirements done.
-If you wish to leave a tournament early or to not take the bus home to or from the tournament, you MUST have a signed note from a parent or guardian. This is only so that we know where you are and in case something happens to you, the team can not be sued since we are legally responsible for you.
-If you want to go to the CFL this weekend, the sign ups are being taken down TOMORROW.  Do NOT email Maddy asking to sign up afterward.  Also keep in mind that you can not hire judges at CFLs, so we need judges or people will be dropped.
-If you need a binder, please email Rachel at rjmatuse@optonline.net.  Even if you do not need one now, but think you may want to in the future, this would be a good time to order one.

The team would like to congratulate everybody who competed at Hanover Park 2 this weekend.  Almost everyone who went was competing in an event they had never competed in before, and that is very admirable and we are very proud of them.  We would especially like to congratulate:
-Sohum Doshi/ Ben Wohl- 4th Place Public Forum Debate
-Sarah Levy- Top non-advancing novice Improvisational Speaking

Upcoming tournaments:
-January 16-CFL 4 at Seton Hall Prep HS- Events offered: DP, JVOI, VOI, OO, Duo, JVExtemp, VExtemp, NLD, JVLD, VLD, PF
-January 30-Ridge- Events offered: HI, DI, DUO, OO, Improv, Impromptu, Dec, Poetry, Prose, NLD, JVLD, VLD, PF, Extemp, Congress

Hi guys!  Just a few things.

-If you want slicks, please email Anna Fernandes at code.af@hotmail.com.  The more we buy at once, the cheaper they will be.  So even if you do not need them now but will need them in the future, this would be a good time to buy slicks!

-If you went to GMU or Princeton, please email Mrs. Waite with your ranks.

-Everyone must check nflonline to make sure their points are correct.  If they are not, please email Mrs. Waite with the corrections.  This includes points from a tournament that has already been posted.  For those of you who do not know how to check points, here is the link to our school:http://www.nflonline.org/points_application/schoolprofile.php?id=3520

If you do not wish to sell candy and would like an alternative, you can sell entertainment books!  It is 5 entertainment books per box of candy.  However, you can sell them just because you want to if that so pleases you.  It is $30 per book.  Please email our treasurer Arjuna Iyer if you are interested (NOT ME) at ajst07@gmail.com

THERE WILL BE NO MORE GENERAL MEETINGS DURING LUNCH! “Why,” you may ask?  Because the play is over. -If you are going to Princeton, please get your money in!  It is now $131 and not $140.  If you paid $140, let Lauren or me know so we can tell Boosters to give you a check for $9.  And please don’t pester us for it.  We will give it to you when we have it.

Hey team!  You all did a WONDERFUL job yesterday and I personally want to thank you so much for helping to keep it running smoothly.

First a message from our president, Ben Wohl
Hey team,

Everyone did an AMAZING job at the Randolph Tournament!!!! The only reason why the tournament was such a huge success (ending so early at 6:30 which is almost unheard of for a local tournament and is a new record for Randolph) was due to the hard work and dedication of each and every team member who worked at the tournament.

Special shouts are also due to Boosters as well as all parents who worked at the kitchens/judged at the tournament. They did a great job and really made all of our lives so much better (and tastier). So please thank your parents!

Go Randolph!!!!!!!!!!!,
Ben

Second, DEBATERS: I sent out an email earlier from our Debate VP, Sohum.  PLEASE READ IT!

Upcoming tourneys:

  • If you are planning on attending the Patriot Games at George Mason University from Friday, December 4th to Sunday, December 6th, you MUST email Rachel with the events you want to do and any judges you can provide.  If you are competing in 4 or more events you will be required to provide a judge or the monetary equivalent.  Rachel’s email address is rjmatuse@optonline.net
  • On a similar note, if I send out an email that tells you to email someone that is not me, Alyssa Fox, please do not just hit reply and email me.  Email the person you are supposed to email.  The correct address will always be included.
  • There will be a forensics party this Friday, October 30 from 6-10:30 at Rachel Matusewicz’s house in anticipation of the new season!!!!!  The entire team is invited.  There will be food, fun, and workshops!  This is a great way to bond with your teammates and learn more about forensics as people will be performing and getting critiqued.  Both Speechers and Debaters are welcome to come.  Anyone who is coming must either bring food, drink (non-alcoholic, of course), or $5 to help pay for food.

Team News Letter: 10/21/09

Hey, guys!  Hope you all are enjoying Spirit Week ’09!

  • The deadline for clothing is Wednesday October 21st during lunch!  ONLY GIVE THE FORM TO LAUREN MCNULTY OR ALYSSA FOX (me). Do not expect to give in the form during the after school debate meeting—that is too late.  Please try to buy at least article of clothing.  You will be required to wear team apparel at the Randolph tournament on November 14 (which you should all mark in your calendars now).   If there is some sort of financial crisis where you can not afford to buy a $15 t-shirt, please talk to Mrs. Waite or Ben Wohl.

Team News Letter: 10/10/09

Hey Team!

It is that time of the year when we need to order clothing for the Randolph Tournament that we are hosting NOVEMBER 14th, 2009!!! Mark your calendars, because everyone on the team must attend to help run the tournament. For those who are new to the team, everyone from Randolph wears Randolph Forensics Apparel, so our guests know who to ask for any questions, directions, etc. This year, we are ordering T-shirts, Long Sleeve Tee’s, and Sweatshirts. You may order one of each or just one of the articles of clothing- it doesn’t matter. I know some of the prices are a bit high, so if you would rather borrow a t-shirt from a previous year from a returning member, that is also an option. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

The order forms are attached to this email- to help save the school’s paper. If you could print out the form(s) of the clothing you are buying, that would be great. It says on the forms who to make the check out to, but I will also include it here. CHECKS ARE TO BE MADE OUT TO: RHS FORENSICS PARENT BOOSTERS ASSOCIATION. ALL FORMS AND CHECKS ARE TO BE HANDED TO ALYSSA OR LAUREN ONLY. If you hand your forms to anyone other than them, and your order doesn’t get placed, it will not be anyone’s fault but yours. Forms will be due on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 21st. I will be ordering the clothes that night, so if your forms are not given to me by the end of that school day, there is a good chance you will be out of luck. Please have your forms in on time. You can find us in Mrs. Waite’s room during lunch, at the general meetings on Wednesdays during lunch, and after school on Thursdays. Please spread the word to anyone who is not receiving these e-mails, and we will print forms for them.
